Abastumani health resort (distance from Tbilisi: 210 km, altitude: 1300 meters above sea level, territory: forested mountains) is located on the southern of the Meskheti Range at the entrance to the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, which is the one of the largest national parks in Europe. Curative properties of Abastumani thermal waters are generally recognized. As far back as in the XIVth century, in place of the modern Abastumani, there was a densely populated town of Odzrkhe and therapeutic waters were famous. Cave city Varadzia, Sapara Monastery, Queen Tamar’s Castle and St Alexander Nevskii's church in New Zarzma village are most interesting places to visit around the health resort. Abastumani is also a starting point of Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park with many trekking, riding and biking routes available.
