Borjomi is one of the main balneology and climate health resorts of Georgia. At the alt. of 810 m and at the distance of 160 km from Tbilisi, it is a part of the ravine covered with forests. Crystal-clear air, warm summer (+19 C), mild winter (-3 C) made Borjomi famous since XIX c; all resorts around Borjomi were the property of the Russian Tsar’s family. At the end of the 18th century by Tsar Nicholas constructed the Palace of Romanov. Borjomi is well known for its mineral waters that have been revered for centuries for having positive healing affects on people with digestion disorders. Archaeological excavations have revealed the existence of stone bathes in the area, proving that these mineral waters have been utilized by people for thousands of years. The original name of Borjomi was Tori. It has variety of historical sights, including: the castles of brothers (Petre and Gogia) also various churches and monasteries built between the 6th and 13th centuries: Monastery of Timotesubani dates back 12 – 13th cc; Green monastery dates back 9th century; Qvabiskhevi Church - the 8-9th cc; the state has recently established the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park to help preserve the beautiful and unique nature of Borjomi.
