Bakuriani (175 km. from Tbilisi and 1,700 meters above sea level) is a most popular alpine ski resort at the top of Borjomi ravine. Surrounded by mountains and coniferous forests, this picturesque part of Georgia is famous for its mountains and medical climate. The winter in Bakuriani is sunny and with lots of snow (often reaching the depth of 1 m.) that lasts from December to April. The summer is quite long and fresh, very good for sunbathing. During the summer, Bakuriani is mostly hosting families with children, but in the winter the place becomes a genuine alpine skiing centre.
Skiing: Bakuriani provides a wide choice for the skiers. For professional and experienced skiers there is the Tatrapoma line, with the FIS certificate and World Olympic Committee certificate conferred on it. The length of lines reaches 1,300 meters with altitude difference of 450 meters. The line of Tatrapoma elevator is 1,200 m long, transporting skiers at the altitude of 2,200 m. The ski line of the mountain Kokhta Gora is 1,400 m. long with altitude difference of 450 m. The first half of the line is attributed to the complex category (black), and the second part belongs to the medium category (blue). A two-seat elevator line of 1,200 m. length, takes the skiers up to the altitude of 2,100 m. For youth and amateurs 5 elevator lines of 420 and 450 meters are at service.
Since January, 2006 a new skiing line Didveli was opened (length: 1,650 meters). This line brings skiers as high as 2,200 meters in 5-6 minutes. Three new ski lines, 1,700 m to 1,800 m long, have been added as well, with altitude difference of 400 m. It is planned to lengthen the line up to 3,500 meters and bring it to the highest altitude of 2,622 m. This will increase the altitude difference to 850 meters between the highest and the lowest points. Famous Italian company carries out construction works of the new line.
